Community Initiatives
Facilitations and Assistance (CIFA – Ethiopia) was registered in 2005 out of
CIFA – Kenya initiatives which itself was registered out of Farm Africa's 5
years “Pastoralist Development Program” (PDP) implemented in Northern Kenya. Its
formation was based on building upon the achievements of FARM-Africa and CIFA
Kenya particularly in promoting opportunities for livelihoods improvement for
the nomadic and sedentary pastoralists.
Over the years, the border
zone between Kenya and Ethiopia experienced increased intra ethnic conflicts,
animal health, and livestock marketing bottlenecks. This led to CIFA Kenya
(established in 2000) to facilitate the establishments of cross border
initiatives in 2004/05. Through these initiatives, CIFA gained recognition from
the Ethiopian communities and authorities and in 2005 this led to the setting
up and registration of CIFA Ethiopia as a National NGO and re-registered again
on April 11, 2016 with the Federal Charities and Societies Agency via
certificate number 1012.
