Over the years, the border
zone between Kenya and Ethiopia experienced increased intra ethnic conflicts,
animal health, and livestock marketing bottlenecks. This led to CIFA Kenya
(established in 2000) to facilitate the establishments of cross border
initiatives in 2004/05. Through these initiatives, CIFA gained recognition from
the Ethiopian communities and authorities and in 2005 this led to the setting
up and registration of CIFA Ethiopia as a National NGO and re-registered again
on April 11, 2016 with the Federal Charities and Societies Agency via
certificate number 1012.
The CIFA
Trust (www.cifauk.org.uk),
an independent charity registered in UK, was established in 2006 to broaden
CIFA’s international outreach, particularly with regard to advocacy on behalf
of the marginalized pastoralists, and also to strengthen CIFA’s capacity and
long term sustainability in Kenya and Ethiopia.
Our strategic position in Borana Zone and linkage to several cross
border partners and sister organization – CIFA Kenya gives us a big opportunity
to work on cross border related issues
